Villa Renovations Altea

Altea’s villas sit on hillsides and near the coast, and how you get materials and trades to the front door shapes the whole job.

Altea is built on a hill. The old town climbs in narrow streets toward the church, and the villas around it step up the slopes or sit closer to the sea. Views are the whole point, and they are the reason owners want the houses opened up and the terraces made usable.

That setting makes renovation a logistics exercise as well as a design one. Lanes can be tight, plots steep and parking limited, so planning deliveries and skips matters before the first wall comes down.

We have worked in Altea for many years and plan villa projects with that in mind.

Access

Planning a Job on a Steep Plot

A villa up a narrow lane cannot take a large lorry. Materials may have to be carried part of the way, and a skip may need permission or a different spot. None of this is a problem if it is planned, and all of it is a nuisance if it is discovered on day one.

We look at access during the first visit and build it into the programme and the quotation. That includes where materials are stored, how heavy items such as tiles, sanitaryware and kitchen units reach the house, and how neighbours are kept informed.

It also affects choice of materials. A lighter solution that can be carried to site sometimes makes more sense than a heavier one that has to be craned.

Views

Opening a Villa Up to Its View

Many Altea villas were built with small windows and closed rooms, with the best outlook given to a bedroom or nobody at all. Renovation often means reversing that: larger openings, doors onto the terrace and a living area that looks the right way.

Changes like these affect structure, glazing, shading and cooling. A large window facing the sun looks wonderful in March and is a different matter in August, so we discuss glazing, shutters and air conditioning together.

The terrace usually follows. We look at drainage, waterproofing and surfaces so the outdoor space is as comfortable as the room that opens onto it.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms in Older Altea Houses

Villas on the older side of Altea often have bathrooms squeezed into leftover space. Adding an en-suite or enlarging a shower room usually means working with existing walls and pipe routes rather than starting fresh.

Careful planning of drainage and falls avoids the problem of a lovely new room that drains slowly. We check the waste runs and water supply before choosing the layout.

Finishes can be chosen to suit the house, from simple and modern to something that sits comfortably with the character of the surrounding streets.

How it works

How a Villa Renovation in Altea Works

We visit, check access and the condition of the house, and agree the scope. The written quotation is free and sets out what is included.
