Altea's roofs sit on slopes, in tight streets and on houses with layers of past repairs. We deal with the difficult access and the old structure underneath, then close the roof properly with sound tiles and drainage.
Roofing is shaped by the ground in Altea. Houses step down hillsides, streets in the old quarter are narrow and often stepped, and a roof that looks close from the road may be a long way from anywhere a lorry can stop.
That matters because the work is physical. Tiles, sand, cement and timber all have to be carried, lifted or hoisted, and the plan for doing so is part of the job from the first visit.
Many roofs here carry the history of the house: a section replaced decades ago, a later extension tied in at a different level, a patch of felt where tiles once stood. We untangle that history and repair what is actually there.
Old town
Older houses in Altea usually have a timber structure of beams and boards beneath clay tile. If water has been getting in slowly, those timbers may be the first casualty, so we examine the underside from inside the roof space where we can.
Sound timber stays; softened or insect-damaged sections are discussed with you. We would sooner show you a photograph of a bad beam than ask you to take our word that it needs attention.
Where a roof needs relaying, the old tiles that are still good can often be reused, which keeps the look of a street intact. We say honestly if the quantity of good tile is too small to make that worthwhile.
Slopes
A villa stepped down a hillside may have a roof at street level on one side and two storeys up on the other. We look at every approach and choose a route that does not risk damage to terraces, gardens or neighbours.
On some properties a small machine lift or a chain of hand-carrying is the only way. That affects the labour involved, and we cover it plainly in the quotation so that nothing about access is left vague.
Safe working is not optional on steep ground. Where the pitch or the drop calls for edge protection or scaffolding, we put it in place before the work starts, not after somebody has asked.
Water
When heavy autumn rain arrives, a hillside sends water down towards your house as well as onto it. A roof can be sound and still suffer if the gutters, downpipes and the ground at their foot cannot cope.
We check that gutters are sloped correctly, fixings are firm, and that downpipes discharge somewhere sensible rather than against a wall. Small changes in routing can solve a damp patch that no roof repair would reach.

How it works
We visit first to look at the roof from outside and the structure from within, and to study the route up. The written quotation sets out the repair, the materials, and how we will reach and protect the work area.
Owners who live elsewhere get photographs before, during and after. We agree any surprise, such as an unexpectedly weak beam, with you before extra work goes ahead, and we leave the roof tidy and watertight.
Questions
Yes, though access is planned carefully. We visit first, decide how materials will reach the roof, and describe it in the quotation. Some streets need hand-carrying or a small lift, and we allow for that before work begins.
Where we can see them from inside the roof space, yes. We photograph any damage, tell you what we found and discuss whether it needs treatment or replacement. Sound beams are left alone, and you see the evidence either way.
Often, if enough of them are sound. We sort them while relaying and tell you what proportion can go back. If too many are cracked we explain that and discuss suitable replacements before ordering anything.
Either is possible. We check both the roof and the way rainwater leaves the building, and if the real problem is damp in the walls, we say so and suggest the right service instead of selling you a roof repair.
