Our office is in Callosa d'en Sarrià, so we know its houses, hills and weather first hand. For floors here that means short journeys, quick site visits and an understanding of how local homes are built.
Dragon Reforms is based in Callosa d'en Sarrià, in the valley below the Guadalest mountains, and we have worked on the town's homes for a long time. Many of them are village houses, older stone and rendered buildings, plus fincas on the hillsides among the farming terraces.
Being local has practical benefits. We can call round to look at a floor on short notice, return to check a problem without a long drive and recommend materials we have seen perform in the valley's own conditions, including its damp winters.
It also means we know the building types. Floors in these houses are often laid over thick old slabs or stone, with walls that move a little and ground rooms that can feel cool and damp. We plan around that from the first visit.
Valley
Village houses here often have deep walls, rooms of varied height and floors that have been resurfaced more than once. Fincas on the hillsides are larger and rambling, with rooms added over time. Both reward a tiler who is willing to look carefully.
We check each floor for hollow patches, damp and sloping falls, and we ask the owners about the building's story. That conversation frequently reveals the thing a quick glance would miss, such as an old drain or a former doorway.
Where a house is sound but plain, a new floor can change how the whole home feels. Light porcelain brightens the cooler rooms found on the ground floor of many older houses. Having seen so many houses of this type, we can often anticipate the problem before the old floor is opened.
Ground floors
Ground-floor rooms in valley houses stay cool in summer, which is welcome, but they can be damp in winter. A new tile floor on a damp base can lift, stain or smell musty, so we investigate before we lay anything.
If we find moisture coming up from the ground, we explain the options. They may include a barrier under the new floor or treatment from our damp proofing team. We do not promise that tiles alone will cure it. Ventilation helps too.
Open airbricks, working windows and sensible heating in the damp months protect both floor and walls, and we talk you through simple habits that make a difference. We would rather explain a damp issue honestly than lay a handsome floor that fails within a season.
Local
A tiling job often needs a second visit: to check a sample in daylight, confirm a layout once the old floor is up or look at a hollow spot found midway. When the office is a short drive away, those checks happen quickly.
We can also manage deliveries sensibly, collecting materials and meeting suppliers at short notice, so work does not stop for want of a bag of adhesive or a box of trims. Local owners often combine floors with other work in the same house.
Because the whole team works from this valley, scheduling painting, plumbing and carpentry around your tiling is straightforward. It also means that any small snag after the job is easy for us to come and put right.
How it works
We come to the house, walk through it with you and write the quotation after measuring and testing the floors. It lists each room, what preparation it needs and what is laid, so you can see precisely what you are paying for.
If you live here, we agree how to keep the house workable during the job. If you are abroad for months at a time, we send photos and updates, and a neighbour or relative can hold keys while we work.
