Calpe mixes apartments close to the sea with villas on the slopes beneath the Peñón de Ifach. Salt air and holiday use shape how air conditioning here should be installed and looked after.
Walk through Calpe and you pass apartment blocks near the water, older town houses and villas rising up the hillsides, with the Peñón de Ifach as a backdrop. Many of the homes are second homes or holiday lets, which means plenty of properties stand empty for stretches and then need to work immediately.
The sea is never far away, and the salt it carries finds its way to outdoor units. A unit on a balcony close to the front will age differently from one on a sheltered hillside, and the way we position, protect and service equipment reflects that.

Salt air
Salt settles on outdoor coils and metalwork and, over the years, corrodes them. Units close to the water tend to show the effects first. Rinsing and cleaning during servicing, sound fixings and a position that is not constantly wet from sea spray all help to slow it down.
We look closely at the condition of the outdoor unit and its bracket when we service a system. If corrosion is already well advanced, we say so, and discuss whether it is worth treating or whether replacement is more sensible.

Holiday homes
A unit that has been switched off for months benefits from a check. Filters, drain and outdoor unit all deserve a look before you rely on them for the first heatwave. It is far easier to deal with a minor issue in spring than to find it on arrival.
If you let your property, the system also needs to be straightforward for guests to use. We can set up simple controls and, where it suits, wifi operation so that you can check on the unit from abroad.
We can arrange access with a neighbour or manager if you are not in Spain, and report back when the work is finished.
Hillside villas
On the slopes, villas often have terraces, several levels and generous windows. The sun beats on south-facing rooms, and the layout may mean long pipe runs between floors. We plan the system around the house, choosing between separate units and a multi-split depending on the plan.
Levels are a practical advantage in one sense: the outdoor unit can go at a convenient level, away from bedrooms, with the pipes routed discreetly.
For villas lived in through the winter, a reverse-cycle unit gives quick heat on cool mornings and evenings, which many owners find more useful than they expected.
How it works
We begin with the property: apartment or villa, which floor, which rooms and what you want from the system. If you are abroad, photographs are enough to start. We then give you a quotation, which is free, setting out the units, the work and the price.
After you accept, we agree dates and carry out the installation or repair, test the system and show you how to use it. We leave the property clean. The work is guaranteed, with the scope set out in the quotation.
Questions
It can, particularly for outdoor units close to the sea. Good positioning and regular servicing are the best way to keep them in condition.
Before the first extended stay of the season is sensible, so any fault is dealt with before you need the system.
Usually, yes. Check what the community and the owners allow for the outdoor unit first, and we will plan the installation to fit.
A reverse-cycle heat pump does both. It suits the mild winters well, though results depend on the room and its insulation.
