Polop is a small inland village, and its older houses ask more of a kitchen fitter than almost anywhere else on this stretch of the Costa Blanca.
Village houses were built over generations, with thick walls, uneven floors and rooms that rarely meet at right angles. Dropping a standard kitchen into one leaves gaps, and the answer is usually either a bespoke kitchen or very careful scribing of factory units.
Around the village, hillside villas are more regular but have their own character. Many were built as second homes and later made permanent, so the kitchen may still reflect how the house was used twenty years ago.
Our approach in Polop is to find out what is really inside the walls before we promise a layout, and then do the whole job with one team.
Older walls
In a square modern room, factory units fit. In a house where one wall bows by several centimetres, they do not, and the gaps are covered with filler panels that look like an afterthought. Bespoke units are cut to the actual dimensions.
We also deal with floors that fall across the room by setting plinths and worktops level, which is invisible when done properly and obvious when it is not.
Deep window reveals and thick walls can be turned to advantage, with the sink or a shelf set into them.
Before and after
The difference between a tired kitchen and a finished one is often greater than owners expect, because the improvement is not only the units. New plaster, lighting, flooring and tiles change the entire room.
A good reform also removes the problems you have learned to live with: a socket in the wrong place, a tap that drips, a cupboard that cannot be opened fully.

Behind the walls
Plumbing and wiring in an older village house have usually been extended piece by piece. When the old kitchen is stripped out, we see what is there and tell you.
Where something needs replacing, it is far cheaper and neater to do so now than to chase new cables through a finished tiled wall in a year.
Damp is occasionally part of the picture in older stone or block walls, and our damp proofing team can advise if we see signs.
How it works
We visit and take careful measurements, check the walls and floor, and look at how the services run. A layout and written quotation follow, free of charge, and we take you to suppliers to see materials in person.
Work follows one programme managed by a single contact who speaks English and Spanish. Owners who are away receive photographs and calls, and the work is guaranteed within the scope set out in the quotation.
