Polop is a small inland village, and its housing reflects that. The centre has older village houses, narrow streets and properties that have been altered by successive owners. Around it, villas stand on the hillsides, with the quiet and the views that bring people inland rather than to the coast.
Village houses and hillside villas call for different handling, but both are bought by people who want something calmer than the coastal resorts, often to live in for much of the year. That changes what a renovation has to deliver: warmth in winter as well as shade in summer, and a property that works day to day.

Houses with a history
An older house in a village has usually been changed many times. A new room at the back, a bathroom added in a corner, wiring extended from a single original circuit. Each change made sense at the time, but together they leave a building that is hard to understand until it is opened up.
We approach these houses patiently. Surveys look for damp, the condition of beams and roofs, and how services have been laid. The quotation then reflects what we can see, and we are clear about what we cannot see yet.
The aim is not to turn the house into something new, but to make it sound, warm and comfortable while keeping what is good about it.
Year-round living
Inland, winters feel colder than on the coast, and a house used all year needs heating and insulation as well as cooling. We look at windows, doors and roofs with that in mind, since draughts and poor glazing do more harm than people realise.
Kitchens and bathrooms in village homes are often small, and the work is about making good use of limited space. Compact, well-planned rooms are better than large ones that do not work.
Plumbing and electrics are renewed as part of the job, so you are not living with old services behind new finishes.
On the hillsides
Villas on the hills around Polop have the usual pattern of terraces, steps and lower levels, with a quieter setting. The renovation questions are the same as elsewhere: drainage, damp, outdoor surfaces and ageing services.
What differs is the use. Many of these are retirement homes, so ease of living matters: step-free routes, showers instead of baths and rooms that are simple to maintain.
