Finestrat’s hillside villas are built around views, with Puig Campana behind and the sea below. The terrace is the place to enjoy them, so how it looks, shades and stays safe matters.
Many Finestrat homes are villas on slopes, with terraces that run along the front of the house and look out over the coast. Others are in the area near Cala de Finestrat, where homes sit closer to the sea.
With a view terrace, the edge is the feature. The balustrade, the drop beyond it and how open the terrace feels are as important as the floor.
Wind and sun are also noticeable on exposed hillsides, and we take both into account when choosing materials and structures.
The edge of the terrace
On a hillside the terrace edge can be a long way above the ground below. The balustrade must be properly fixed into a sound structure, not just attached to the surface tiling.
Glass keeps the view clear. Metal and masonry give a more solid look. Each has its own care needs in sun and sea air, and we explain them when you choose.
If an existing railing is loose, rusty or wobbles, it should be dealt with before anything else. Refixing often requires work to the edge of the terrace.
Sun and wind
A pergola can make a view terrace usable through the hottest part of the day. On an exposed site the structure needs solid posts and fixings that cope with wind.
Our carpentry team builds timber structures to fit the terrace, and the design is easier to get right when planned together with the floor.
Lighter paving stays cooler underfoot. Textured porcelain and some stones also give a safer grip after rain.
Base and waterproofing
Rain falling on a sloping site runs fast. Terraces need correct falls, a reliable outlet and edges that do not let water get under the tiling.
When a floor has failed we strip it back, inspect the base, waterproof and relay. Surface-only repairs rarely last on terraces that leak.
Terraces over habitable rooms or garages deserve extra care, and damp below can be treated as part of the same project.
