Houses in Finestrat are built into steep ground, with split levels, long stairs and bedrooms at different heights. Before a wardrobe can be designed, someone has to work out how to get it through the door.
Below the great shoulder of Puig Campana, many Finestrat villas step down the slope. Bedrooms may be on a lower level with a view across to the sea, reached by a staircase that turns twice. A long board that fits a flat in town may not turn the corner, so our units are planned in sections that can travel.
The picture changes by the coast at Cala de Finestrat, where apartments and townhouses lie closer to the water. Rooms there are smaller and more likely to be let out, and air near the sea carries more moisture. Storage choices shift towards compact, hardwearing layouts.
This coast has been our patch for renovation work since 1999, from the villa slopes to the sea. Our own carpenters measure, make and install in Finestrat, Guarantee terms for the finished unit appear in the quotation. Spanish and English are both spoken on every visit.
Access
On sloping plots the route from the road to the bedroom can be long: a driveway, several steps, a narrow hall and a staircase. We visit that route at the survey and measure the tightest points, because it determines how big each piece can be when it is carried in.
The answer is usually to make the unit in panels and assemble it in the room. Side panels, shelves and doors travel flat, then the carcass is built on site and trimmed to the walls. It takes slightly longer than dropping in a ready-made box but gives a better finish.
Lighter materials sometimes help on awkward sites, and we tell you if a heavy stone-look or mirrored finish would be hard to manage on your stairs. Honest planning avoids a damaged staircase, or a delivery that has to be turned back at the gate.
Sloping ceilings
Many houses cut into a hillside often contain roof pitches, steps within a room and recesses beside a stair. These are awkward for loose furniture but very good for built-in storage, because the carpentry is cut precisely to fit them, angle by angle.
Under a sloped ceiling, a low run of drawers or shelves can use space that is otherwise wasted, with taller hanging at the high end. Beside a staircase, a shallow cupboard may hold linen or coats. We sketch the options during the visit.
It is worth remembering that useful depth varies. Anything under about a rail's width of height will not take hanging clothes, so we plan those corners for folded items, shoes or suitcases and keep long garments to the taller side.
Near the sea
Near the coast, flats and townhouses are often holiday homes. Bedrooms are smaller, so sliding doors are common, and the air carries a little salt and moisture. We choose fixings and boards with that in mind and build in ventilation.
The outer-wall position is the likeliest place for damp to appear. We check the wall at survey, and if there is a hint of damp we recommend dealing with it first, with our damp proofing team if needed, before closing it in.
For rentals, simple layouts work best: hanging space, a few shelves and a spot for cases. We can suggest one standard arrangement across several rooms, which keeps both the cost and the later maintenance down, and makes the rooms easy for a cleaner to turn around.
How it works
We begin with a visit that includes the route into the house. As well as measuring the room, we note stairs, narrow doors and any slope that could limit what can be carried, and photograph the wall for the design.
A free written quotation follows. We then build the panels, deliver them in suitable sections and assemble on site, finishing with scribing and trimming. Photographs and short videos keep absent owners informed throughout, and any adjustment is made before we leave.

Yes. Built-in storage is ideal for sloping ceilings because it is cut to the angle. Low sections take drawers or shelves and the taller side takes hanging space. We sketch the options at the survey.
It can if built against a cold external wall without airflow. We check the wall, leave an air gap, add vents and choose moisture-conscious boards and fixings. If the wall itself is damp, we recommend treating it first.
