The coast at Albir runs along a long promenade, with a lighthouse and the Sierra Helada rising behind. Between the two are apartments with sea balconies and villas climbing the slopes. A large share are holiday homes or let to visitors, and that shapes the kind of system worth fitting.
For a rental, the question is not only how cold the room gets but how simple the controls are. Guests should be able to switch it on without a manual, and owners should be able to check it without a flight. Quiet running matters too, since bedrooms are often small.
We work with leading brands and recommend a system for the flat or villa in front of us. Our firm has been doing this along the coast here since 1999. We also keep the instructions short, so the system is easy to hand on to whoever manages the changeovers.
Holiday lets
Guests use a unit for a week and leave it on when they go out. Simple handsets, sensible default settings and clear instructions left in the flat avoid most calls to the owner. We set up the controls so that the common mistakes are hard to make.
Between bookings the system can stand idle. Filters gather dust, drains grow algae and the unit may not run smoothly when asked to. A check between seasons, and a clean after a busy summer, keeps problems from reaching the next set of guests.
If you manage the flat from abroad, wifi operation lets you check settings or switch off a unit left running after checkout. It is not essential, but many owners find it worthwhile. We can pair that with a short note for guests about leaving windows closed, which protects the system and your bills.
Sea balconies
Many Albir flats have little space for an outdoor unit. A balcony corner, a roof area or a service patio may be all there is, and the block may have rules about where it goes. Speak to your administrator before ordering anything.
Salt and humidity mean the unit should be firmly fixed, protected from direct spray where possible and cleaned at each service. We assess the bracket and casing whenever we visit. Cleaning with fresh water during servicing keeps the coil in better shape.
Noise reaches neighbours quickly in a block. We choose a position that keeps the outdoor unit away from bedroom windows next door and run the drain so that it does not drip onto the balcony below. A neat drain run avoids angry notes from the flat below.
Hillside villas
Villas on the slopes tend to have several floors, terraces and large windows facing the view. They collect heat on the sunny side while rooms on the shaded side stay comfortable, so a single system serving everything wastes effort. We look at which side of the house takes the afternoon sun, and set up the units accordingly.
Splitting the house into zones, with independent units for bedrooms and living space, keeps the system efficient and lets you cool only what you use. Where floors are stacked, a multi-split can share one outdoor unit. Zoning also means a failure in one unit does not leave the whole villa without cooling.
The slope may offer a convenient spot for equipment below a terrace or at the side. We choose it with servicing and neighbours in mind, and conceal pipework where we can. Ask about outdoor unit positions before you buy. Ask us.
How it works
First we talk about the property: flat or villa, which rooms, who uses it and for how much of the year. If you are not here, photographs and a video call are enough to start. We then visit to measure and provide a written quotation.
The installation or repair is carried out by our own team, tested and handed over with a short explanation of the controls. You get a guarantee on the work, defined in the quotation we give you, and we message you when it is finished.
Questions
With a wifi-enabled unit, yes. You can switch it on before you arrive or check that it was turned off after a stay. We explain what the model allows when we quote. Not every unit offers it, so choose the model before the work.
Service it before the busy season, clean the filters between lets and make sure the drain is clear. We can set up a routine that suits how many guests you host. A quick check by us in winter often finds early faults.
Often, yes. A balcony corner or roof area may work, subject to the community's rules. We look at the options and tell you if the building is likely to restrict them. Alternatives include ducted indoor units hidden in the ceiling.
Yes. We diagnose the fault first, whether it is gas, a blocked drain or a failed part, and tell you plainly if repair or replacement makes more sense. Many faults are simple to fix once found, and a clear explanation is part of the job.
