Albir is a place of holiday flats near the seafront promenade and villas rising up towards the Sierra Helada. Its showers work hard, so we build them to be quick to clean and kind to the people using them.
With the lighthouse at one end and the hills behind, Albir is largely made of second homes, rentals and family holidays. A shower here is rarely used by the same person two weeks running, which calls for clear controls and a safe, simple floor.
Apartments close to the promenade bring in sand, sun cream and salt, and the bathroom must cope with all three. Villas on the hillsides have more room, and often more bathrooms, but equal pressure to stay presentable between visits.
Our service on this coast started in 1999. One manager looks after our plumbers, tilers and builders on the whole shower area, owners overseas get photographs, and we speak both English and Spanish.
Changeovers
Rental showers fail in predictable ways: mould in grout, limescale on glass, a mixer that confuses visitors and a drain that clogs. We design against each of these with large tiles, a simple screen, an obvious single-lever mixer and an accessible drain.
On changeover day there is little time. A shower that can be wiped down and dried in a few minutes helps the cleaner and the next arrivals. Good extraction speeds drying and helps stop mould, so we check the fan as part of the job.
Durability counts too. We prefer fittings that are easy to replace, with common seals and cartridges, so that repairs between guests can be done quickly rather than waiting for special parts.
Promenade flats
Flats near the seafront are often compact, and a bath may be one of the least used items in the home. Replacing it with a level shower leaves room for storage and makes the bathroom feel larger and brighter.
Sand and salt shape the details. A drain with a lift-out basket, a floor with decent grip and corrosion-resistant fittings all suit this setting. We also look at ventilation, since steam in a small room can linger when windows stay shut.
Shared buildings add considerations. We check how the waste connects to the building, seal the base carefully above neighbours' ceilings, and suggest you let the community know the dates in advance.
Hillside villas
Villas on the hillsides take advantage of views and space. Bathrooms may be large enough for a bench, a long linear drain and a wide fixed screen, with a window that frames the view if privacy allows.
Plots slope, and pipes may travel some way to the main drain. At the survey we follow the route and plan the base so the water runs off cleanly. We also ask about the plot's drainage, since that decides what is practical.
Some villas sit empty between visits, so we plan for that. Seals are done carefully, the drain is easy to inspect and stopcocks are put somewhere a caretaker will spot them. Owners get a short note of where things are.
How it works
We call to measure, trace the waste pipe and inspect the floor, and we ask how frequently the place is let or lived in. A free quotation in writing then covers the base, the sealing, finishes and fittings.
Strip-out starts the programme, followed by plumbing, base, sealing, tiling and screen. Owners abroad receive pictures of each phase, and at handover we run the drain and look over the new shower with you.

Usually it is. It is easy to clean, simple for new guests and safer than climbing over a bath wall. We use sturdy fittings and easy-clean finishes so changeovers are quick and repairs are straightforward.
Generally yes. We check the waste pipe, the floor and the building's rules, then build a sealed base and screen. The survey tells you if a fully level entrance is possible or a low edge is needed.
Use large tiles to cut grout, keep seals intact and make sure the extractor works well. Wiping the glass after use also helps. We check ventilation during the survey and recommend changes if it is weak.
Often, where the floor structure and space allow a gentle fall to the drain. We assess both before agreeing a design, and explain whether a full wet room or a walk-in shower suits the villa best.
