Benissa combines an old town, countryside fincas and villas near the coast, so carpentry here runs from restoring heavy timber to building new outdoor living space.
Benissa has three quite separate sides. The old town has tall, narrow houses with character. Inland, the countryside has fincas with farmland, terraces and substantial buildings. On the coast, villas look out to sea. Each brings a different style of carpentry.
Fincas tend to be the most demanding. They are often large, with thick walls, high ceilings, long beams and many doors. Owners restoring them want work that respects the building but is comfortable to live in. In the old town, the challenge is fitting joinery into tall, tight spaces. And on the coast, it is mostly outdoor timber that has to deal with sun and sea air.
We have worked across the north Costa Blanca since 1999. A large property usually means a larger and more varied carpentry programme, and we help you plan it so the work happens in a sensible order.
Fincas
A finca can be a project of many parts. Ceilings may be carried on long timbers, doors may be oversized, and outbuildings might be converted into guest rooms or a studio. Carpentry runs through all of it, so we start with an overview of what the property has and what you hope to do with it.
Where beams are original, we assess them carefully and treat or repair what can be kept. New ceilings can be finished in timber to match, and doors can be made to the generous proportions the building suits. We try to avoid work that looks pasted on to an old house.
Large houses benefit from joinery that is consistent in style throughout. Matching doors, skirting, shelving and cupboards give a finca a coherent, finished feel even when it has been renovated in stages.
Old town
Old town houses in Benissa are often several floors high but only a few metres wide. Staircases take up much of the plan, and any extra storage has to be found in alcoves, under stairs or against party walls. Built-in joinery is one of the best ways to use that space.
Because walls and floors are rarely true, we make units to fit what is actually there. We can build wardrobes, bookcases, window seats and kitchen shelving that follow the irregular lines and look as if they were part of the house.
Access can be tight, with narrow doorways and steps. We plan how materials will be brought in and sometimes build units in sections so they can be assembled inside.
Coastal villas
Villas closer to the shore are open to sun, wind and some salt air. Pergolas, decking and exterior screens are popular, and they need to be specified for those conditions, with suitable timber, fixings and finishes.
We design structures to suit the house and terrace, taking account of shade, wind and neighbouring sightlines. A well-planned pergola makes a terrace usable for far more of the year.
Existing outdoor timber that has weathered can sometimes be revived with cleaning and refinishing, and sometimes needs replacing. We tell you honestly which is more sensible.
How it works
For a finca or large house, we begin with a walk-through of the whole property so we understand the scale of what you want. We then provide a written quotation, which can be divided into phases if the renovation will take place over time. In town houses and villas, the quotation focuses on the specific rooms or structures involved.
We plan access, protect floors and original features, and coordinate with other trades on the same property. At the end we review the work with you. It is guaranteed, and the scope of the guarantee is set out in the quotation.
